About Us
Principal's Message
Marlo Primary School is situated in Far East Gippsland, approximately 400km
from Melbourne. Marlo is a small community at the mouth of the Snowy River,
15km from Orbost.
Our school grounds back onto native bushland and have views of the ocean from almost all buildings. Most students that attend our school live locally with many walking or riding their bikes to school. Marlo Primary has developed close ties to the local community, and enjoys support from our local shops and community services.
Marlo Primary School is a member of the Snowy River Education Community (SREC) alongside Orbost Primary, Orbost North Primary, Newmerella Primary School and Orbost Secondary. These schools work together to share resources and programs to enhance student learning outcomes. There are a number of joint camps and excursions each year that provide excellent opportunities for all students.
There is a very strong and supportive community behind the school at Marlo who have high expectations of the school and of their children. The small class sizes and individual attention that Marlo Primary School provides is highly valued by parents who have high expectations for their childrens’ education.
The school has a beautiful play area, playground structure, an undercover area, a vegetable garden and outdoor Indigenous classroom and is close to community facilities and natural areas including tennis courts and the Snowy River.
We strive to provide a nurturing and challenging environment that empowers students to reach their personal best, both academically and socially.
Values
RESPECT - RESILIENCE - CURIOSITY - EMPATHY
Marlo Primary Schools Statement of Values and School Philosophy is integral to the work that we do and is the foundation of our school community. Students, staff and members of our school community are encouraged to live and demonstrate our core values of Respect (for self, others and our environment), Resilience, Curiosity and Empathy at every opportunity. Our school’s vision is to empower students to reach their personal best, and fully equip them to contribute positively to society as happy, healthy young adults.
Acknowledgements of Country
At Marlo Primary School each class had the opportunity to craft their own Acknowledgement of Country, inspired by the original one guided by our Koori Education Support Officer, Aunty Lynne. Each of our classrooms underwent an inquiry cycle to help guide them in selecting a native animal to name their classroom after. The animals selected for each classroom were – Galah (P/1), Lyrebird (2/3), and Pelican(3-6). This inquiry process allowed for a beautiful layer of symbolism in naming our classrooms, reflecting each classes unique spirit and connection to the land. A wonderful testament to the importance of honouring Indigenous culture and fostering a sense of belonging in our school and local community. Please enjoy the videos below created by the Galah, lyrebird and pelican classes.
